Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is the first installment of the Fire Emblem series, and the first to be developed for the platform. Following the journey of Prince Marth in a journey to reclaim his throne from the evil sorcerer Gharnef and his master Medeus, the gameplay revolves around tactical battles on grid-based maps, with defeated units being subject to permanent death.
