    God of War III

The Ghost of Sparta returns in the final chapter of the God of War trilogy. Betrayed and killed by Zeus, the fallen god and Spartan warrior, Kratos seeks revenge. With the help of the Titans, he battles the Olympians to unleash chaos.

God of War III maintains the hack-and-slash gameplay with new elements and weapons. Completing the game unlocks additional challenges and bonus content, including the Chaos difficulty and behind-the-scenes videos.

  2. Together with Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, this game is the 3rd games in the 4th generation of the Pokémon series. Set in a new region, Sinnoh, it includes 107 new Pokémon, bringing the total up to 493. Pokémon Platinum includes for the first time in the 4th generation, the Battle Frontier which can be played on and off-line, make Poffins on-line. Players can collect badges, challenge the Elite Four, and become the ultimate Pokémon master.

The game continues the basic idea of previous Pokémon games - the player, a new trainer, sets out on a quest to catch every known Pokémon and defeat the Pokémon league. Along the way, the player will attempt to foil the plots of the evil organization, Team Galactic, who seek to use a trio of legendary Pokémon to awaken a sleeping titan with the power to control space. There are many sidequests and other activities along the way, the Battle Frontier, expanded on-line options, downloadable content via Mystery Gift, a brand new GTS with the option to receive notifications of completed traded over the Wii, record battle videos, the option to submit one's Pokémon party data for others to see and the Distortion World, which defies the laws of gravity and contains Platinum's mascot, Giratina.

The core Pokémon series features an RPG turn-based battle system. Each monster can learn up to four attacks. In a single turn, the two opponents select their attacks, and the one with the higher Speed attacks first. The amount of damage is influenced by the Attack and Defense stats. In the past, attacks were automatically classified as Physical or Special based on their elemental type. In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum each attack can be individually categorized, so attacks which use natural elements are Special, and those which use simple force are Physical.

The Pokémon Contests from Ruby and Sapphire return, with many new features. In addition to the attack performance, where the player must try to impress the judge with flashy moves, players will also dress up their Pokémon and dance in time to music. Platinum, as well as Diamond and Pearl, also bring back the real time system from Gold and Silver, where day and night are reflected in your game. Some Pokémon are only catchable during certain times.

  4. Tasked with protecting a village, the player character along with other angels (celestials) are attempting to reach God's land. By helping and protecting his town and earning their thanks, the main character obtains enough benevolence for the World Tree to produce the Goddess Fruit. This fruit is the only sure way to enter God's land. Things don't go according to plan, taking the player into the adventure proper.

Dragon Quest IX marks a number of firsts for the series: it is the first title to be initially launched for a handheld system and to have no real random encounters (unless travelling over sea). Instead the player can see the enemies on the map. Even though the game isn't the first main series title in 3D, for the first time all equipable items are visible on the characters models at all times.

Furthermore, the game was created with the intent of having a multiplayer focus: players can bring their adventurers into their friends' worlds via wireless connection to play alongside them and even swap copies of their heroes which may bring special items like treasure maps with them. There's also downloadable content available through Wi Fi, like new items and quests.

Similar to previous titles, combat is turn-based, where the player selects tasks for each of the characters: attack, use item, cast a spell etc. Like in Dragon Quest III, all party members are created by the player; unlike the hero, they don't fulfil specific roles in the narrative and may be swapped at a special service available at inns.

    God of War: Ascension

God of War: Ascension is the seventh installment in the series and serves as a prequel. The player controls Kratos, a former servant of Ares, who is tricked into killing his own family. After breaking his blood oath, Kratos is imprisoned and must fight for his freedom.

The game retains the hack-and-slash combat system of previous entries. Kratos wields the Blades of Chaos and can use new weapons through the "World Weapon" system. He can also learn four magical disciplines (Fires of Ares, Ice of Poseidon, Lightning of Zeus, Soul of Hades), each granting unique abilities. The Rage mechanic has been modified: it triggers automatically at full charge and lasts as long as Kratos continues attacking.

For the first time in the series, the game features online multiplayer. Players align with one of four gods (Ares, Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon), each granting distinct powers. Experience points unlock abilities, weapons, and armor. The game includes four multiplayer modes: Team Favor of the Gods, Match of Champions, Trial of the Gods, and Capture the Flag.

    Silent Hill 2

James Sunderland got confused when he received a letter from his wife asking him to come to Silent Hill, their special place. The only problem is that his wife died three years ago, and has kept the secrets surrounding her death. James decides to honor the letter's request, wondering if this is a sick joke or if there is more to this. As James reaches the outskirts of the town, he finds that the road is blocked, and parks at an abandoned restroom. Little does he realize that this is the first step forward into the mystery of Silent Hill and his own past.

Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game. The gameplay is similar to that of the first installment. The player navigates James around the town of Silent Hill and collects weapons, health-restoring items, and objects needed to solve puzzles in an unlimited inventory. A radio alerts James when enemies are near. Like the protagonist of the first game, James is not very skillful in combat; he can fight with basic melee weapons or firearms with scarce ammunition. Most of the puzzles are logic-based and are often shaped like riddles, though there are a few simple inventory-based tasks as well.

While the basic concept is the same as in the previous entry, the game is set in a part of town that was unexplored in it, and the weapons and enemies are mostly new as well. Also new is the ability to change the standard "survival horror" (character-dependent) controls into the more widespread, 3D (camera-dependent) navigation. The difficulty level can be adjusted separately for combat and puzzles.

    God of War

God of War is set in the age of ancient Greek myths. The hero of the game is a mortal warrior Kratos. Long time ago, Kratos was the leader of Spartans, a fearless and brutal general who waged wars for the glory of his city. Today, he is known as the Ghost of Sparta. For the past ten years, he is tormented with terrible nightmares, unable to forget the tragedy that happened in his past. He has to serve the gods of Olympus, who promised to forgive his sins if he becomes their champion. Finally, the goddess Athene tells Kratos that redemption will be granted to him if he defeats her brother, the god of war Ares, who was the very reason for the tragic event of his past...

God of War is a 3D action game with platforming and puzzle-solving elements. Kratos has two default swords that he will always carry with him, called the Blades of Chaos. They allow the player to perform combos, which will constantly climb until the fight is over or until it takes too long to register another hit. The higher the combo total, the more red orbs Kratos receives from defeated enemies.

Similar to Devil May Cry, the red orbs collected from fallen enemies can be used to purchase upgrades. It is possible to upgrade the default weapons, learning new moves and striking faster, or put the orbs into different weapons acquired throughout the game, such as Blade of Artemis. Kratos will, over time, also have access to a selection of magic spells. At specific points in the game, he will be able to generate an arc of electricity, courtesy of Zeus, or use the decapitated head of a Gorgon to turn enemies into stone with Meduza's Gaze.

The game features several unlockable extras, which are only acquired when the player has beaten the game on different difficulty modes. Most of the features are a behind-the-scenes look at various aspects of the game, such as creating the world, modeling Kratos, and a look at deleted levels that didn't make the final cut of the game.

  11. While at a festival with Princess Zelda, Link encounters a mysterious mage, called Vaati, who turns the princess to stone. Helpless to stop them, Link is asked by the king to meet with a race of tiny people known as the Minish, who may be able to help with their predicament. On his travels, Link teams up with a talking cap called Ezlo, who is able to shrink Link to the size of a Minish so that he can meet with them. With his newfound abilities, Link must save the kingdom from Vaati's menace.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is a top-down action adventure game that tells the origins of the evil Vaati from Four Swords. Players take on the role of Link as they conquer various dungeons to retrieve essential tools to fight enemies and progress through various obstacles. Items such as the Mole Mitts allow Link to dig through dirt, while the Gust Jar can be used to suck in enemies, items, and propel Link. Link can also shrink down to the size of a Minish with the aid of Ezlo, the talking cap.

The Minish Cap uses the gameplay mechanic of shrinking to make familiar territory new and different. Puddles become huge rivers, baby chicks are huge monsters, and regular enemies become deadly bosses at Minish size. Link can also trade items called "Kinstones" with people in the game - when two pieces of the same Kinstone are joined together, new areas open up, treasure chests appear, and sometimes, even useful rewards are given to Link.

  25. The French ambassador Pierre Simon and his family are travelling from Saint Petersburg to Paris aboard the Blue Harvest, a military NATO-developed train, when it is hijacked by terrorists known as the Knights of the Apocalypse. Negotiations yield no result and the only hope is lieutenant Jack Morton, part of the original escort, who manages to sneak back on the train. His job is to take back control of the armoured train, stop the terrorists from deploying a nuclear weapon and rescue the hostages.

Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn is played as a third-person shooter, but also introduces stealth elements, puzzle-solving and driving sequences with the train. The different compartments of the train form the levels. Next to regular movement, Jack can dash and use a search function that allows him to peek around corners and into rooms. Morton is in touch with the headquarters and also collects information about the organization on his way. The game uses an intelligent targeting system where the cross-hair changes colour based on the viewing angle. Shooting from a difficult position will do little damage, while open shots have a larger chance of hitting enemies.

  26. Listening to players and critics, Bandai reissues his title in a special version soberly named Dragon Ball Z : Budokai 3 (Edition Collector). No big changes in the content with some bonus costumes and other goodies. The main interest of this version lies in the addition of the Japanese voices of Toriyama's characters. The special attacks of Goku and his gang are finally accompanied by the Japanese voices, and that makes all the difference! The story mode narration and menu comments also benefit from the original dubbing. For the rest, the title remains the same and thus keeps all its gameplay qualities (tough but efficient) and its sick super powers that will give you a feeling of unequalled overpower.

  29. In the year 199X, in the village of Onett, on the continent of Eagleland...

Young Ness was asleep one night when a loud crashing noise awoke him suddenly. As he rushes out of bed and up to a nearby hill, he encounters a strange meteor, carrying a single passenger: a mysterious insect-like being named Buzz Buzz. Buzz Buzz tells him that in the future, an evil alien being known as Giygas has conquered the world, and the only one who can stop him are four young kids: three boys and a girl. Ness, of course, is one of the chosen ones, and he must find the other three children: Paula, a young girl with remarkable psychic powers, Jeff, a mechanical genius, and Poo, the young Prince of Dahlaam. Together, these four friends have the power to defeat Giygas and save the world from his chaotic reign!

EarthBound is a sequel to Mother. It is a top-down role-playing game in which the heroes travel around Eagleland and various other, exotic countries, trying to end Giygas' evil influence.

On the way, Ness and his friends will encounter a lot of enemies and battle them in turn-based combat. Unlike in the previous game, enemies are visibly walking on the screen. Each turn, each of the characters in the party can attack with their weapons, use a special ability (some characters have powerful psychic powers that can hurt enemies, heal comrades and more; some also have some other, unique special powers), use an item or try and escape.

The game features "rolling HP meters" - when a character is dealt damage, it's not all taken away from his HP right away, but instead his HP decreases slowly; if the combat is ended quickly, even a massively damaging attack can leave a character with only minor injuries. By winning battles, characters receive experience and thus become stronger. If the player-controlled characters are strong enough, weak enemies will escape from them instead of trying to attack; when chased down, they will be defeated instantly.

Saving the game is done by finding a telephone and calling Ness' father. When the heroes defeat enemies, Ness' bank account receives money, which can be then retrieved from ATM machines throughout the game and spent in shops to buy better equipment or useful items.

  31. Crash: Mind over Mutant is the sequel to Crash of the Titans and continues the storyline of its predecessor.

The Titans from the previous game have broken free from Dr. Cortex' control and have settled down on various places on Wumpa Islands. But Cortex has teamed up with Nitrus Brio to develop a device which can control both the Bandicoots and the Titans. Now Crash and his friends must find out where Cortex is hiding and stop him before he can act out his devious plan.

Crash can use a light-powered attack to defeat smaller enemies, but for bigger enemies, a more high-powered attack is needed. Crash can also block and dodge attacks. Just like in Crash of the Titans, Crash can take control of the Titans which he encounters. But this time he can take the Titans with him and use them when he needs it. As Crash defeats more and more enemies, he can upgrade both his own attacks and the attacks of the Titans in his possession.

For the Nintendo DS, a different 3D game was released.

The ship on which Alundra is coming to the village goes down, but Alundra himself is washed up on a beach near the village. There, a blacksmith Jess takes care of him and treats him like his own son. But Alundra, stepping into the dreams of the village people, understands there's a danger somewhere. The people have horrible nightmares, and only Alundra can find out what they mean...

    MediEvil

In the year 1286, Sir Daniel Fortesque and his soldiers fought against the evil sorcerer Zarok, who raised an army of demons, intending to conquer the world. Sir Daniel was hailed as a hero after the battle, supposedly having been mortally wounded during it, taking Zarok with him. However, it looks like the sorcerer was not defeated in that battle. A hundred years later, he appears again, robbing people of their souls to build an army of undead. Unleashing waves of necromantic energy, Zarok inadvertently revives Sir Daniel as well. Now a skeletal corpse, the knight must correct the mistakes of the past and defeat Zarok once and for all.

MediEvil is an action game in which the player controls Sir Daniel, exploring 3D environments and fighting many enemies that stand on his path towards the ultimate goal. The protagonist starts with his own detachable arm as the basic weapon; however, later he acquires swords and other melee weapons, as well as bows. Money can be collected and spent on items and equipment sold by gargoyle merchants. The hero must also find various rune stones that will allow him to access new areas.

Each level contains a chalice that can be filled with souls of defeated enemies. Sir Daniel may take a chalice only after having vanquished a sufficient amount of foes. Getting the chalice enables access to the Hall of Heroes, where the protagonist can receive new weapons. Collecting all the chalices in the game unlocks a special ending.

    Ring of Red

20 years ago, an alternate World War II occurred, where both Axis and Allies developed mecha technology, known as Armored Fighting Walkers (AFWs). As a result, battles continued in different ways and Russian forces were more instrumental in the eventual defeat of Japan. The end of the war has had Japan divided between the allied forces, similar to Germany. Japan is now split into a communist North Japan and an Democratic South Japan, governed separately. Without any obvious cause, Japan erupted into civil war between it's halves for four years. Dubbed the "Japan War", it further weakened Japan's economy and fueled resentment between people living in the North and the South. In 1964, Masami von Weizegger is a AFW pilot in the South Japan forces. While field testing a prototype AFW, it is stolen by North Japanese agents and Masami is dispatched to recover the stolen material. As Masami's team attempts to retrieve the AFW, they stumble into a military operation that threatens to erupt into all-out war.

Ring of Red is a turn-based action/strategy game set in an alternative post-World War II Japan. Players take the role of members of the South Japan military who are put on a hunt for a stolen AFW. During battles, mechs are moved into position on a grid-based map and may engage different enemy units or occupy specific points. As turns are taken, time passes, shifting the battlefield through daytime and nighttime hours as well as different weather effects. All of these affect the accuracy of weapons as well as the types of abilities that can be used. Battles end when objectives are met by either side.

Putting a twist on the turn-based genre, Ring of Red features turn-based movements with real-time combat. When two AFWs engage on the battle grid, players are taken to a real-time battle where they have limited time to engage one another before refueling is required. Here the AFW is viewed from 3rd person and may be moved forward and back and given orders. Firing on the enemy requires aiming, in first person, by the player. The AFW uses a steam powered cannon which must be pressurized before firing, aiming at either an enemy AFW or at enemy support crew. Additionally AFWs can engage in close combat if they are close enough, delivering punches to one another. Each AFW pilot also has his own statistics and own special abilities, that can be used only once per battle, that can be called upon at any time. AFWs also feature unique statistics, being divided into four types: Standard, Light, 4-Leg (Heavy) and Anti-AFW.

Each AFW unit is actually a group made up of three ground units: one of which acts as crew for the AFW, while the other two walk alongside. Support units are divided into types including: Infantry, Shooter, Supply, Medical, Mechanic and Recon. Each of these types of "support units" has different skills in battle and individually have different abilities and statistics. The abilities available and used change depending on which positions the units are assigned to. Additionally many special abilities need to "charge" in the rear ranks before becoming available for usage. These abilities include firing special types of munitions (including flash, heat, smoke and impact), laying down mines or tripwire, laying down a barrage of fire, throwing grenades, healing units, sniping specific targets, morale boosts, AFW repairs, neutralization of enemy effects and disarming enemy mines/tripwire.

    MySims

In MySims for the Nintendo DS you are the new inhabitant of a boring city, where there is not much to do and the inhabitants barely know each other. The mayor of the city asks you to make the city a topstar rating city. With each thing you do that improves the city, the city gets more stars and thus more people interested in living there or visiting the city for a holiday. The game gives you quests that you can follow, but you can also choose to do small improvements yourself. The rewards you get for these made improvements are new furniture and items for your own home or clothing and accessories that you can put on your own character.

  43. Waking up, unsure of where he is, Junpei discovers a watch-like device attached to his wrist with a digital "5" on the face. Trapped inside the room with the only way out being a solid, steel door with a menacing, blood-red "5" painted on it, Junpei has little time to take in his surroundings before a porthole cracks, and water rapidly begins pouring in. As he makes his escape, pieces of memory return, including a strange figure in a black coat and gas mask known only as Zero. He soon meets eight other people aboard what they soon discover is a huge ship. Who are they, why has Zero brought them here, and what is this strange game that Zero has decided to play with their lives?

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is an adventure game with two different styles of play. The first is a traditional Japanese "Visual Novel" style game, where most of the game is spent reading through text, with occasional choice selections being prompted at points. However, unlike most visual novels, the majority of choices presented in the game send the player on different paths, leading to different areas of the ship, eventually leading to one of the game's six different endings. Based on how the player responds, other characters change their attitudes or personalities, and different events will occur. In the narrative sections, characters and dialogue are shown on the DS' top screen, while a narrator describes thoughts, feelings, and actions on the bottom screen.

The other style of play is more akin to a traditional point-and-click adventure game. At key points in the game, the player and other characters become trapped in one of the ship's many rooms, and must solve a number of puzzles to discover the key and unlock the exit. Puzzles are all logic-based, and relevant clues are placed within the room. Everything you need to escape is within the room, so there is no need for trial-and-error guessing, and you can't get "stuck" because you've missed an object. During puzzles or interactive escapes, the DS' bottom screen is used to navigate the room and select objects to interact with, while the top screen shows dialogue from nearby characters.

A major gameplay element comes in the form of Zero's sealed metal doors spread around the ship. Doors rely on an arithmetic function the game calls the "digital root." Each door has a number, and three to five characters must pass through the door at any one time. The characters that pass must have a total bracelet value that adds up to the "digital root" marked on the door. Digital root is calculated by adding the numbers, and then the sum of those numbers, until only a single digit remains. For example, 7, 8, and 9 would add up to 24. 2 and 4 would then be added to get 6. So the digital root of 7, 8, and 9, would be 6.

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors features multiple endings based on the choices and actions of the player. It is also possible for any of the characters (including Junpei) to be killed in the course of the story, making the game somewhat less linear and the choices somewhat more profound.

Fast reflexes and precision shooting are the keys to survival when outlaws ambush from every angle and nail-biting showdowns are only a bullet away. As they pursue Mad Dog and four other wanted fugitives, players can choose from three different difficulty levels to hunt them alone or join forces with others in two multiplayer modes - Posse and Rebel. In Posse Mode, players work together with up to three friends in pursuit of a combined high score, while in Rebel Mode they work independently with up to four bounty hunters for individual high scores. Whether sharpshooting solo or with a posse, the Mad Dog McCree Gunslinger Pack lets players deliver their own brand of Wild West justice and walk away with their gun smokin'!

    Suikoden V

The Queendom of Falena is a prosperous country ruled by Queen Arshtat. The Sun Rune, one of the legendary twenty-seven True Runes, is said to protect Falena from all danger, working in conjunction with the Twilight Rune and the Dawn Rune. Recently, the inhabitants of the town of Lordlake rebelled against the queen's rule. In order to put an end to the rebellion, the queen used the power of the Sun Rune, killing Lordlake's leader and turning the town's environment into a barren, scorched wasteland. Using the rune also rendered the formerly kind and benevolent queen mentally unstable.

Meanwhile, the traditional Sacred Games are being held. The champion has the right to claim the hand of Lymsleia, the princess and the future queen of Falena. Two powerful nobility factions are trying to gain the upper hand in the championship through intrigues and manipulation. Eventually, one of them orchestrates an assault on the royal castle, capturing the princess and taking control of the country. Arshtat's son and Lymsleia's older brother, the prince of Falena, manages to escape along with a few allies. The prince must secure the help of other factions and nations, build an army, and liberate his homeland.

Suikoden V is, chronologically, a remote sequel to Suikoden IV and a close prequel to the first game, set eight years before it. Traditional elements of the series - the ability to recruit 108 characters to help the hero on his quest, maintaining an own castle, the rune-based magic system (limited casting of spells instead of magic points) - are all present in this installment. Like in the first two games, the player manages an active party of individually controlled six characters, with four others acting as backup. Party formation plays an important role now, as the party receives bonuses by using different placements and tactics. Characters can execute combo attacks, which vary depending on the members currently participating in the battle. The skill system from the third game is back: characters can learn various passive abilities which increase their parameters and improve combat behavior.

The duel battles are timed in this installment, the player having to quickly select an attack type before the opponent executes his or hers. Turn-based tactical army combat from the previous entries has been replaced by real-time strategy battles. The player navigates various types of units on land or sea; the unit types relate to each other in a "rock-paper-scissors" fashion, each type being strong and weak against two others.

The world is ruled by a vicious warlord named Achiless and his henchmen. You are Ryu, the master of martial arts and sword-fighting, who has decided that a confrontation with Achilles is in order to bring peace and order back to the world. Your character is equipped with both a sword (for offense) and a shield (for defense). You will go through six stages starting at a ruined city, each with two boss characters (in the middle and at the end). Some enemies are so powerful that you will die the instant you fail to block. You also have to race against time as well, which makes the game that much more difficult.
