UEFA Champions League: Season 2001-2002
PESandISSFootball and 2 others reacted to akumasan for a game

Voici le programme de la Wolverine Week : 1] X-Men Konami GX65 Arcade System [1992] 2] X-Men : Children of the Atom CPSⅡ Arcade System [1994] 3] Marvel Super Heroes CPSⅡ Arcade System [1995] 4] X-Men vs. Street Fighter CPSⅡ Arcade System [1996] 5] Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter CPSⅡ Arcade System [1997] 6] Marvel vs. Capcom : Clash of Super Heroes CPSⅡ Arcade System [1998] 7] Marvel vs. Capcom 2 : New Age of Heroes NAOMI Arcade System [2000] 8] X-Men Origins : Wolverine Xbox 360 [2009] 9] Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Xbox 360 [2011]2 points

Area 51
tendryak and one other reacted to TompouceGabriel for a game
Area 51, the urban legend, is a U.S. military-controlled base in the Nevada desert, apparently containing a secret aircraft testing facility. It is also famed as the subject of many UFO conspiracy theories. Area-51, the game, is a first-person shooter (FPS) set in this particular base, now infested with rampant aliens and a mutagenic virus that changes your character. As Ethan Cole, Special Forces, specialist in the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division, you have to discover what's going on inside the base and blast the menace to save the world. Your character races against time: the same virus that is mutating the facility personnel into monsters is also in his organism, slowly transforming him into an inhuman creature under the control of the alien masterminds.
The hero has access to more than ten types of human and alien weapons to fight the creatures. They are designed by Stan Winston Studios, monster creator for such films as Aliens, Jurassic Park and Predator. The weapons can be used in melee combat as well, and it's possible to switch to an alternate firing mode, in some cases with the downside that it consumes more ammo. Ethan can also use a scanner to investigate items of interest, documents, alien artifacts and residue. The information contributes to the backstory and is stored in the scanner's databank.
At a specific point in the game, you will gain the ability to mutate into a creature for a limited time. All monsters and humans are then highlighted by your thermal vision, and you can use claws in melee and shoot heat-seeking parasites. Staying in the mutant form consumes mutagen, which can then be replenished by draining infected corpses, killing enemies in melee or consuming special syringes with mutagen, as opposed to using normal medical syringes to restore health.
Area-51 has a two-player split-screen and an online multiplayer (for up to 16 players) component with several modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Capture and Hold, and Infection. In Infection, all but one player start as normal healthy soldiers hunting one mutant player. The latter is able to create more mutants by killing opposing players, and thus infecting them.2 points -

Set in post-WWII New York City, The Godfather: The Game follows the player-created character's rise through a crime syndicate based on the book and film franchises. Combining events from the movie with side-story missions, the player must earn respect by completing missions in territories controlled by New York's five crime families.
Largely open-ended, the game's story is driven by a series of missions where the player can use violence, intimidation, or diplomacy to affect the outcome and influence future events and other character's reactions. A third-person action game, The Godfather: The Game features a punching mechanism to brutally assert yourself, a car theft and driving engine, and a shooting system which allows for locational damage.
The game features a persistent offline world populated with locations from the franchise and characters who are often voiced by the actors who portrayed them onscreen.2 points -

keylogs01 reacted to GambierBae for a game
Last Bible Special is a part of Last Bible series, which are a sub-series within the Megaten universe. The events of "Last Bible Special" take place in an alternate Middle East in the beginning of the Christian era. You play as Materu, a young warrior who gets an assignment from the bishop of Jerusalem to travel to four dungeons. The demon king Graias is controlling other demons who found their hideout in those dungeons, and it's your task to defeat them.
Unlike the three previous Last Bible games, "Last Bible Special" features 3D first-person dungeons, like in mainstream Shin Megami Tensei games. The game is heavier on dungeon crawling: you cannot travel on the world map, but are taken automatically to the huge dungeons which you should complete in a specific order. In the town, you can buy items, as well as recruit party members. The battles are random and turn-based. Like in all Megaten games, you can communicate with the demons you encounter and convince them to join your party.1 point -

Serial Experiments Lain
kylalyd reacted to GambierBae for a game
Serial Experiments Lain is an anime series directed by Ryutaro Nakamura, original character design by Yoshitoshi ABe, screenplay written by Chiaki J. Konaka, and produced by Yasuyuki Ueda (credited as production 2nd) for Triangle Staff. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from July to September 1998. A PlayStation game with the same title was released in November 1998 by Pioneer LDC.
The Serial Experiments Lain video game was released for PlayStation on November 26, 1998 by Pioneer LDC, and was never classified into a particular genre. It is speech-intensive, and entirely in Japanese (it was never released outside Japan). Throughout the game, with the assistance of Lain, the player unlocks pieces of multimedia information (Lain's therapy sessions, her diary, notes of her therapist, video segments) to discover what happened to her. The game shares the themes and protagonist, but not the plot, with the anime series with the same name.
The game was made to be a "network simulator" in which the player would navigate to explore Lain's story. The creators themselves did not call it a game, but "Psycho-Stretch-Ware", and it has been described as being a kind of graphic novel: the gameplay is limited to unlocking pieces of information, and then reading/viewing/listening to them, with little or no puzzle needed to unlock. Lain distances itself even more from classical games by the random order in which information is collected. The aim of the authors was to let the player get the feeling that there are myriads of informations that he would have to sort through, and that he would have to do with less than what exists to understand. As with the anime, the creative team's main goal was to let the player "feel" Lain, and "to understand her problems, and to love her"
The series of events differs slightly from that of the animated series. In the video game, Lain talks to a therapist, a character that doesn't appear in the anime, while most characters from the anime (like Alice) are absent from the game. Lain herself is basically the only common element between the two, and even the ending is different: while she erases everyone's memories and becomes an entity of the Wired in the anime, and kills Eiri Masami, in the video game she commits suicide to escape to the Wired, where she is finally joined by her psychiatrist. There has been speculation that the plot of the anime follows on chronologically from the game.1 point -
Dead Space
kylalyd reacted to RomStation for a game
The starship USG Ishimura sends out a distress signal to the Concordance Extraction Corporation during a mining operation on the planet Aegis VII. Another ship is sent to investigate the causes of the signal; however, as it attempts to dock with the Ishimura, it crashes into it because of a system malfunction. The crew is attacked by terrifying monsters. Only three people survive, among them an engineer named Isaac Clarke. It looks like the ship is barely able to sustain its existence, many of its systems critically damaged. Isaac is the only one who would know how to fix them, and his two companions send him on a mission to find out a way to bring things back to normal and discover the truth behind the horrible events.
Dead Space is a third-person sci-fi shooter with elements of survival horror. Controlling Isaac, the player explores the ship, fighting reanimated corpses known as Necromorphs. Combat heavily relies on the so-called "strategic dismemberment", which forces the player to cut off limbs or parts of the Necromorphs to defeat them. Wounding a particular part of the Necromorph's body may either allow the player to kill it, make it change attack patterns, or even become more dangerous.
Many of the weapons in the game are improvised mining tools, such as a rotary saw, a plasma cutter, a hydrazine torch used as a flamethrower, and others. All the weapons feature a secondary fire mode; for example, the plasma cutter can be rotated to cut off vertical limbs more efficiently. Isaac can also use special abilities, allowing him to slow down enemies or pick up and throw items from a distance. A few sections in the game have Isaac float in a zero-gravity environment. Ammo and tools can be found during exploration or purchased in automatic shops available on the ship. Workbenches can be used to upgrade Isaac's weapons and armor.1 point -
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Neo7713 reacted to RomStation for a game
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an action game released as a tie-in with the movie of the same name. It takes place outside the events of the film with a separate storyline where Spider-Man discovers a larger threat to NYC that has turned the underworld upside down, weaving together villains from the film and classic Marvel characters. The game opens with Spider-Man tracking down his uncle Ben's killer in order to bring him to justice. However, he soon finds that there is much more going on in the city of Manhattan and finds himself in a tangled web between Oscorp, Wilson Fisk and a mysterious new serial killer.
Players control Spider-Man in an open-world version of Manhattan similar to the previous games in the franchise. He can swing freely throughout the city using a web-swinging mechanic. The swinging has become more strict in the sense that it is no longer possible to always swing about anywhere if there is nothing present to attach it to, even though there are exceptions. The web is controlled with Spider-Man's left and right hand with two separate buttons. Pressing them together gives a boost. There are different types of web available, for instance used to freeze something or to make it explode. Different enemies need to be taken out with combat techniques and various upgrades can be earned throughout the game.
Similar to the inFAMOUS series there is a morale system where the player can choose to have Spider-Man intervene to stop crime or to ignore it. The existing crimes have been expanded with new types such as arson and hostage situations. Other types of activities include photo investigations, task force, aiding the police in a deadlock, rescue situations and infiltrating hideouts. Through the open-world design there are often multiple approaches, including stealth. There are also sections where Peter Park is controlled, doing detective work on foot. Peter's home acts as the main hub to replay missions, equip costumes and purchase upgrades. The in-game map is accessed through a mobile phone. It is also used to receive messages and access upgrades.1 point -

Toy Commander
logan27 reacted to RomStation for a game
Some of the greatest adventures that kids have growing up occur in their imaginations as they play with their toys. Toy Commander is a game that attempts to capture these adventures in an interactive, three dimensional world. The player's perspective is that of the toy vehicles that inhabit a house. The various gameplay areas are all based on rooms in this giant house.
Gameplay in Toy Commander is mission based. In each mission, the player controls one or more toy vehicles to accomplish certain objectives. The objectives in each mission vary widely. In some missions, the player must drive an army truck and shoot things, in some it is necessary to fly helicopters to pick up and drop off objects, and in some the player races against computer-controlled vehicles.
There is a storyline that ties together the missions in the single player mode. A coalition of old toys has started a rebellion against the new toys in the house. An evil Teddy Bear, the Toy Commander, is leading this rebellion. It's the player's job to stop him. In each mission, the basic goal is to complete the task in as short a time as possible. If the player meets a certain time goal, the mission is completed. By completing four missions, the player gets to challenge the boss character in the room. If the boss is successfully destroyed, he will assist the player character in the final fight against the Toy Commander.
In addition to the single player mode, there is a 4-player simultaneous deathmatch mode.1 point -
As the 2nd millennium ends, the cities are over-ran with Apocalyptic violence. Is this down to urban frustrations, or a sinister cult controlling everybody? You are either cop D'Arcy Stern or former soldier Roper McIntyre, and have to find the answers, but more importantly put a stop to the carnage.
This involves a succession of action-packed non-linear missions. The environment incorporates shadows, rain, fog and a day/night cycle. Police cars, motorcycles and ambulances must be controlled during some missions. There are many ways to 'settle' the enemies - car chases, hand-to-hand combats and action movie-style shoot outs for example.1 point -
Vampire Hunter D is based on the anime titled Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, which, in its turn, is based on the novel Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase by Hideyuki Kikuchi. You play as D, the half-human / half-vampire whose sole mission in life is to hunt down and kill vampires. The setting is not the distant medieval past, nor is it the mid-19th century, instead D's adventures are set in the far distant future, when humanity has nearly killed itself off by endless wars. Rising from the scorched earth and assuming power in this desolate era are the timeless vampires. They established a feudal system where they ruled over humans as nobles in Europe ruled over their peasants. But after thousands of years the Vampires' power waned and humans revolted against their lords, and thus the class of Vampire Hunters were born.
In this particular story, D is employed by a rich family to retrieve their daughter from the vampire who kidnapped her. He is not the only one trying to free her; a rival group of vampire hunters, the Marcus Brothers, are after the daughter and the bounty, regarding D as a rival. The Vampire Hunter D must enter Castle Chaith, battle the Vampire Lord, the minions that inhabit the castle, and a hidden evil, to save the girl and collect his bounty.
The action in Vampire Hunter D plays like the early Resident Evil games. There are pre-rendered backgrounds and all the characters are animated in 3D. Players utilize D's signature weapon, his massive long sword, as well as his special vampire powers, (which comprise healing, offensive, and defensive powers), to battle the hordes of evil creatures that live in the hallways and chambers of the daemonic Castle Chaith. You must solve puzzles, unlock doors, and retrieve key items to progress into the depths and heights of the castle, ultimately reaching and revealing the true evil power pulling the strings of this macabre story.1 point -
