Processeur : Elle utilise un CPU NEC VR4300 de 64 bits cadencé à 93,75 MHz, dérivé de la puce MIPS R4300i. Limitations : Bien que le processeur puisse effectuer des calculs 64 bits, la console dispose d'un bus système de 32 bits et d'une mémoire (RAM) limitée à 4 Mo (8 Mo avec l'extension). Utilisation réelle : La plupart des développeurs ont ignoré les capacités 64 bits car les opérations 32 bits étaient plus rapides et consommaient moins de mémoire. Par conséquent, pour les opérations générales, la console se comportait davantage comme une machine 32 bits. En résumé, elle est officiellement une console 64 bits grâce à son processeur, mais son architecture globale et l'usage des jeux la rendent fonctionnellement très proche des consoles 32 bits de sa génération, comme la PlayStation.
