The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (or simply Spirit Tracks) is an action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS on December 7, 2009 in North America, December 10, 2009 in Australasia, December 11 December 2009 in Europe and December 23, 2009 in Japan. It is the fifteenth installment in The Legend of Zelda franchise and the last to be released on this console.
A direct sequel to Phantom Hourglass, the previous game in the saga released in 2007 on the Nintendo DS, the game features Link, a young train driver, accompanied by the ghost of Princess Zelda, in his adventure through Hyrule, which he crosses on a steam locomotive with a cannon. He seeks to find the body of Princess Zelda, separated from her soul by a demon, Kimado.
The game's development team is mostly the same as for the previous episode, with director Daiki Iwamoto and producer Eiji Aonuma in particular. Like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time and developed in a short time to take advantage of the game engine developed, Spirit Tracks is also designed in a short time by taking over the game engine from Phantom Hourglass. If it uses the cel-shaded graphic style established by The Wind Waker and perpetuated by Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks differs mainly from these two titles by replacing boat trips with train trips, one of the main new mechanics added to gameplay.
