Masked by an extensive subtitle, this installment of Yu-Gi-Oh! presents itself as nothing less than the 2005 edition of the World Championship Tournament series. This series, which began in 2003, specifically targets players who prioritize adherence to official rules over the narrative dimension of the game.

The strengths of this WCT 2005 lie in its adherence to official rules, the addition of 200 cards for a total of 1000, the ability to build 20 distinct decks, and the link duels with possible card exchanges. Completely sidelined in the 2004 installment, the game's storyline is slightly more present here with the opportunity to explore a number of different locations and interact with both familiar and unfamiliar characters. However, this aspect remains quite limited, with areas often consisting of no more than one or two screens to traverse. Nonetheless, all the essential ingredients for duel preparation are present: opponents that can be freely challenged, card shops, and duel arenas. Several decks, either complete or combinable, are initially offered to you in the form of starters and boosters. Subsequently, by winning duels, you'll earn the points necessary to purchase new card packs.
