The PS3 version of The Godfather: The Game, known as The Don's Edition, offers improvements over the original game. It features a reworked crew system and introduces the option to play as an Operator, focusing on blackmailing the FBI, police, and rival families. Additionally, this edition includes two new locations with additional missions, a freighter, and a train yard. Motion-based controls are supported through SIXAXIS for more immersive gameplay.

Known issue with motion controls:

While most of the game can be played with any controller, there are at least 3 sections in the game that require motion controls to pass. Two of these can be skipped by performing other actions, but the third cannot be bypassed ingame.

- First tutorial mission: Forced motion movement can be skipped by pressing L3 + R3 instead.
- Second tutorial mission: Forced motion movement can be skipped by dragging the person to the grave. This will skip the entire tutorial section.
- Later storyline mission: Player is forced to throw somebody off the ledge by moving Sixaxis forwards. No alternative known at the moment.
