Kanken DS is an educative game published by Rocket Games in 2006, on the Nintendo DS. It is an official software based upon Kanken, a kanji test organised by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation. The test examines not only one's ability to read and write kanji, but also one's ability to understand their meanings, to use them correctly in sentences, and to identify their correct stroke order. Although the test was originally developed for native Japanese speakers, non-native speakers may also take the tests.

In this software, players have to use the touch screen to write kanjis. The game automatically identifies writings and enters them on the left side of the screen, however voicing marks and half voicing marks may be erroneously recognised.

There are different game modes: "Challenge Mode" where questions are asked in exactly the same style as the actual test, "Training mode" where you can easily enjoy in a little spare time and have a review function, "Game mode" where you can acquire knowledge. The game contains 25,000 questions from the official test, and completely covers the problems from the 10th grade, which is about the first year of elementary school, to the 2nd grade, which is about graduating from high school. Also, one can take a look at their daily growth with the calendar function.
