Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu (The Strange General McGuiness) is an action-platform game from the Goemon series, released exclusively in Japan on the Super NES and following The Legend of the Mystical Ninja released on the same console in 1991 -1992.
After rescuing Princess Yuki and saving the city of Edo, Goemon and Ebisumaru decided to take a vacation at Ryuukyuu Resort when the mechanical ninja Sasuke suddenly appeared to warn of the threatening arrival of General McGuiness who, accompanied by his rabbit men, wish for the westernization of Japan. Goemon, Ebisumaru and Sasuke set off to attack the Rabbit Castle to stop McGuiness. During the hunt for the general, he makes plans and kidnaps people.
The game's map system is reminiscent of Super Mario World: levels are organized in worlds and appear as normal stages, villages, castles, etc. Unlike previous games, levels can be replayed and, again similar to Super Mario World, taking different paths unlocks new areas. Villages with separate levels and with shops, restaurants and inns. At each end of the world there is a castle in which a boss sits. Sometimes the fight is with giant robots. A two-player mode, mini-games and a few winks are also included.
