Max Payne 3 is a third-person shooter set years after the previous games. Former DEA agent and NYPD detective Max Payne moves to São Paulo, working as a bodyguard for Rodrigo Branco. When Branco’s wife, Fabiana, is kidnapped, Max tries to rescue her, but events quickly spiral out of control. He struggles with alcoholism and adopts a new look midway through the game.

Gameplay revolves around bullet time, allowing players to slow down action for precise shooting and dodging. Max can use various weapons, take cover, and interact with objects. Cinematic cutscenes seamlessly transition into gameplay. In addition to the main campaign, the game includes an arcade mode and a multiplayer mode featuring team battles and online bullet time mechanics.
