Mass Effect 3 concludes the trilogy, offering gameplay that blends third-person tactical combat, role-playing with different classes, and dialogue choices. Due to their past affiliation with the Cerberus organization, Commander Shepard is removed from active duty by the Alliance military upon returning to Earth. The Reapers, a race of extraterrestrial machines, then launch a massive attack on the planet. The Defense Committee seeks Shepard's aid, reinstated as a member of the Alliance and commander of the Normandy by Captain Anderson. While Anderson remains on Earth to defend the planet against the Reapers, Shepard is sent to the Citadel to garner support from the Galactic Council and unite the various races in the fight against the common enemy.
