Alpha Protocol is a video game that combines elements of role-playing and shooter games. The player takes control of Michael Thorton, a member of the Alpha Protocol, a secret organization that carries out covert operations to protect the country. Thorton's first mission is to assassinate the leader of Al-Samad. The player can customize Thorton's appearance and choose one of four classes (Soldier, Field Agent, Tech Specialist, Freelancer) that affects his past. Throughout the game, the player advances the story by visiting Rome, Moscow, and Taipei in any order, gathering intel and interacting with characters through a dialogue system that affects relationships and gameplay. The player earns experience points through completing missions and can use them to upgrade skills and abilities, including stealth, weapons, and dialogue. The game offers different gameplay options, including shooting and stealth, and rewards the player for being strategic.
