Eighty-three years ago, Edward Carnby was investigating the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood. Today, he awakens in a New York apartment, threatened by a group of criminals. Suffering from amnesia, he discovers that he has aged backward. As chaos descends upon the city and enigmatic forces ravage the building, his rejuvenation is just one of the mysteries. Furthermore, an old enemy seeks a powerful stone, setting off a race for survival for Carnby, leading him to Central Park.

The game is divided into eight episodes that can be played in chronological order or accessed from the main menu. The player controls Edward in either first-person or third-person mode depending on the situation and the item used. For example, a fire extinguisher becomes a weapon in third-person mode. With ammunition scarce, Edward must be creative, utilizing objects and the environment. Fire plays a crucial role, consuming everything until nothing remains. This can be useful, for instance, to break through a blocked wooden door.
