In Hakuoki: Shinsengumi Kitan, you play as a young girl (Chizuru Yukimura) who goes to Kyoto in search of her father. Arriving there, she witnesses a fight between Rasetsu and the Shinsengumi, who then take her into "police custody". When they find out it's actually the doctor's daughter they're looking for, they decide to keep her close at hand. Thus begins his adventure to help the shogunate.
