Three different nations live on the continent of Esgrenz. In the southern part is the kingdom of Hingistan, where the inhabitants rebel against the tyranny of the royal family. A country to the west called Fomeros sends troops to help Hingistan under the guise of protecting the citizens, but what they really want is to seize the kingdom's rich mines. The game features a young soldier named Merklich.

The gameplay is identical to Growlanser V, ie the battles now take place in real time.
