Puyo Puyo Gaiden: Puyo Wars is a turn-based strategy game released for the Game Boy Color. Despite its name, the only Puyo Puyo characters present in the game are Arle Nadja and Carbuncle in a cameo role and the Puyo themselves.

Otherwise, the game has an all-new cast, including the new protagonists Daichi, Sho, and Marin and the antagonist Angol. The game’s focus is on placing Puyo into a large variety of mech suits and having them fight.
