Gegege no Kitarou: Youkai Souzoushu Arawaru! is a role-playing game released exclusively in Japan in 1996 for the Game Boy. Adapted from the manga Gegege no Kitarou, the title seems to have inspired all the game design of Pokémon published two years later because the latter looks like Gegege no Kitarou like two drops of water. You play as a young boy who turns out to be a youkai, a kind of ghost. His goal is to make humans and youkai get along well. Top-down exploration makes up the bulk of the game. The other gameplay phases are turn-based battles where you have to use strategy to defeat enemies.
