More than just an ultra fun game, ChuChu Rocket! was the first online game to be played online by the Dreamcast. ChuChus are space mice, which live quietly in a base on a distant planet (of unknown name). The ChuChus lived in peace until the day the space cats arrived: the KapuKapus! These last ones, guided by their instinct of hunters then left to hunt the ChuChus. To survive, the ChuChus have only one way: to flee in the rockets of the base...
The principle of ChuChu Rocket! is very simple: you have a rocket and you have to put a maximum of ChuChus in it within the time limit. The winner is obviously the one who has the most. But that would be too simple without subtlety: so, ChuChus always go straight and turn right when they encounter an obstacle. But you can "guide" them, to do so, you can place the arrows on the ground (up to a maximum of 3 simultaneously). When the ChuChus pass over your arrow, they will go in the direction it points. These arrows are very easy to place because a (almost natural) key is assigned to each type of arrow: X for left, Y for up, B for right and A for down.
To spice up the game a little more, you will occasionally have KapuKapu appearing. These behave in the same way as the ChuChus except that they go faster and if they hit twice an arrow pointing in the opposite direction, the arrow is destroyed. If a KapuKapu meets a ChuChu, the latter is eaten... but if a KapuKapu manages to penetrate your rocket, a third of your ChuChus will be eaten!
But we are not finished yet since there are still 2 particular kinds of ChuChu. The first ones, have a number 50 on them, for each of these ChuChus entering in your rocket, it is not less than 50 ChuChus which will be credited to you! The last kind of ChuChu and undoubtedly the one which makes all the variety of the game. They have a question mark on them and when they enter a rocket, a roulette wheel determining a random event appears. These events have various and varied effects.
