Setting up a multiplayer server and trading pokemon

Hello . 
Im trying with a friend to setup a server and trade some pokemons on fire red . It seems tho that were missing something and we can't join both in the server in order to trade pokemons but one of us can only spectate.
How should we setup the server in order to be abel to trade pokemons?
