Humanity is at war with an alien alliance known as the Covenant, which is systematically уничтожing human colonies. The player takes the role of Master Chief, a super-soldier aboard the Pillar of Autumn, which escapes in a random jump and discovers Halo, a mysterious ring-shaped world. Assisted by the AI Cortana, Master Chief fights the Covenant and uncovers Halo’s secrets.

Halo: Combat Evolved is a sci-fi first-person shooter that blends on-foot combat with vehicles. It stands out for its advanced AI: allied soldiers fight alongside you, while enemies coordinate, use cover, set ambushes, and react to leadership losses.

Players can carry only two weapons at a time, split between human and Covenant arsenals with distinct visual styles and mechanics. Survival is based on a recharging energy shield and health, encouraging tactical use of cover.

Vehicles play a major role in both campaign and multiplayer, often featuring multiple seats for drivers, gunners, or passengers. Human vehicles use wheels, while Covenant vehicles hover or fly.

The multiplayer includes modes such as Slayer, Capture the Flag, Oddball, Territories, Juggernaut, and Race, along with customizable rule sets. All campaign weapons and vehicles are available, including the iconic team-based Warthog.
