The Darkness is a first-person shooter video game based on a comic book of the same name. The main character, Jackie Estacado, a Mafia hit man, becomes possessed by an ancient evil on his 21st birthday, granting him supernatural powers. He uses these powers to eliminate his enemies and protect his girlfriend.

The game includes classic first-person shooting, as well as special powers that can only be used in the dark. The game takes place in modern New York City, as well as in the Otherworld and Hell. The Darkness is a voice in Jackie's head that tries to gain complete control of his body and requires a live human body to exist.
