Hitman: Absolution is the fifth installment in the stealth assassin series featuring Agent 47. The story unfolds after the events of Hitman: Blood Money. Diana Burnwood, Agent 47's handler, goes rogue, prompting Benjamin Travis to put a contract on her head. Agent 47 is tasked with eliminating her and retrieving Victoria, a teenage girl under her protection. The game delves into a larger conspiracy, with Victoria at its center. Compared to the previous game, Agent 47 often forms emotional bonds with victims and becomes a target himself.

The gameplay remains similar, focusing on infiltration, eliminating specific targets, and disappearing. Points are earned by completing objectives, with careful approaches being rewarded. Missions are interconnected, and players can enhance Agent 47's skills with points. Instinct, accumulated in-game, enables various actions such as Point Shooting and bluffing. The primary weapons include the signature Silverballer pistol, while other objects can be used as weapons or distractions. In addition to the main campaign, asynchronous Contracts can be completed, allowing players to create and tackle custom challenges.
