Aero the Acrobat is published by Sunsoft and developed by Iguana, the ones who will give us Turok on Nintendo 64 a few years later.

You therefore play as a bat, hence the somewhat muddy pun of "acro-bat". So you evolve in the world of the circus. Logic. The worlds to cross always have something quite festive: the circus, the amusement park, the forest... Only the museum wants to be much darker, last level obliges. Each includes a lot of levels, giving the cartridge a good lifespan... For those who have the courage to go all the way.

Yes, Aero The Acrobat is difficult, very difficult even. The fault with a maneuverability which wants to be original but which does not manage to hit the bull's eye. The inspiration is quite clear: Sonic. As you move forward, your character picks up speed, and pressing the jump button again while airborne will unleash a spinning attack. And that's where it goes into a spin (yes, I can throw muddy jokes too): you can only attack diagonally, which requires a lot of precision and which, in the heat of the moment, s usually turns out to be disastrous. Fortunately, it is possible to get hit several times before losing a life and the checkpoints are quite close together. But all the same, the frustration quickly takes precedence over the pleasure of the game.

Throughout the game, elements directly from the world of the circus will help you progress: cannons to torpedo you in the distance, stars to teleport you, trapeze, unicycles, etc. So many different ways to play, and not always very happy, again. The game is resolutely platform-oriented rather than action-oriented. As a result, we must much more often try to reach places that are not obvious rather than avoiding opponents. The production is pretty well done, with a typically American touch, the opposite of the Japanese school. This is reminiscent of a game on Amiga for example. The music is pleasant and sticks well to the carnival side.

Aero The Acrobat is just a simple little platform game. Not very innovative, it suffers from hazardous maneuverability and a fairly high difficulty. To be reserved for fans of platforms.
