Alter Ego is a nes homebrew.
It's short and simple, in a good way. It is based on a clever and catchy idea: the player directs a character who can only move left or right, climb or descend ladders, but who cannot jump. The clever and catchy idea? This character has a double, a sort of mirror version of himself, who moves at the same time as him, but symmetrically. Concretely, when we go to the right, the alter ego goes to the left. This mirror image is incorporeal, not subject to gravity, and its axis of symmetry is sometimes vertical, sometimes horizontal, depending on the levels.
That's good, but this idea would be nothing if the rest of the game-design did not follow. First, it is possible to switch with his alter ego: the two images are reversed, the physical character that the player controls takes the place of his intangible counterpart and vice versa. A mechanism that allows access to platforms otherwise out of reach. Then, the goal of each table is to recover all the collectibles of the level, the latter appearing in the form of squares with different properties depending on their color. The violets can only be picked up by the physical character, the blues only by the alter ego, the yellows modify the axis of symmetry (which from horizontal becomes vertical or vice versa), as for the reds, discover their specificity yourself. To complete these game bases, the number of switches between the character and his mirror image is limited according to the tables.
