Par TompouceGabriel :
These days, pretty much any animal under the sun can be a platforming hero. Hedgehogs, Bandicoots, Raccoons, Possums, Bats, Fish... you name it, chances are someone's had it jumping up and down on bad guys. But animals are boring. What we need is personified inanimate objects. What we need is something original. Something that's been in a game before, sure, but not jumping.

We need a car.

Yes, Banishing Racer (I assume it's supposed to be Vanishing, but romanisation is never a simple task when it comes to Japanese titles) features a little car that is not only so cute that it could give a certain VW Beetle a complex,

but is also capable of jumping. Exactly how it manages this is unclear, but it's a good job it can, because it's got to get from one side of the US to the other. Presumably this is for some sort of race, but if so then someone's got confused, because all the other vehicles you meet are going the other way. Some of them can jump too, and although they do have faces, they're not as cute as your car.

So, you drive through the cities, making your way past the oncoming traffic. Well, I say past... but there's not much point in having a jumping car if you don't jump on other cars, is there? Besides, if you crash, you die. Much better
to kill them first. So, you jump ON the oncoming traffic, killing them, and get from one side of the city to the other. And it really is a good job that you can jump, because there are gaps in the road, bridges that get bombed as you drive across them, and large puddles of water.

And I mean LARGE puddles. So big that not even a jumping car can get across them. But that's OK too, because your jumping car also has WINGS! Why he doesn't just use them to fly across America I don't know, but in some levels you do indeed get to join the birds (who will kill you) in the skies.

It might seem that this short review has not touched much on factors such as graphics, sound, and how much fun the game actually is. This is because it's an old Game Boy game, and it scores very low on all three counts. It looks cute, but it's monochrome and pixelly. It sounds like all old GB games do- rubbish. And it plays like a slow, amateurish version of Super Mario Land.

But who cares. It's a Japan only game for a long dead system, and we both know that if you're interested you're going to download it, aren't you? So what have you got to lose?

It's not a masterpiece, it's not a Mario beater, it's not even that great.

But it's got a jumping car in it. That's all that matters.
