Pour l'avènement de la Dreamcast, le hérisson supersonique de Sega nous démontre les incroyables capacités techniques de son nouveau support dans un jeu de plates-formes plus nerveux que jamais. Le résultat est alors aussi étincelant que la réunion des sept Chaos Emeralds ! Sonic Adventure repousse les limites du genre un cran au dessus, notamment aidé par une incroyable vitesse d'action et quelques sympathiques options.

Dans cette nouvelle aventure en trois dimensions, Sonic n'est plus uniquement accompagné par le fidèle renard à deux queues, puisque Knuckles, Amy, Gamma et Big pourront également arpenter à l'occasion quelques stages spécialement adaptés aux capacités propres de chacun. Le déroulement du jeu suit un schéma en deux temps : une étape d'exploration, puis une phase d'action. Ainsi, vous commencez par vous promener dans les rues, taper la discute avec de jolies filles en terrasse, voyager en métro... Puis, après avoir déclenché l'événement clé, vous êtes aiguillé vers le prochain stage où le gros oeuvre du jeu peut débuter. C'est ici que la vitesse ahurissante et les acrobaties du hérisson bleu peuvent enfin s'exprimer librement !
