Sangoku, Naruto, Sasuke, Luffy, Zoro, Trunks, Rock Lee... un casting digne des fantasmes secrets de tout otaku ! Certains appréhendent alors un jeu de baston pur jus, mais Battle Stadium D.O.N s'inspire très largement de Super Smash Bros. Melee. Les deux jeux partagent en effet de nombreuses similitudes, surtout en terme de prise en main. Ainsi, les coups ne demandent aucune manipulation à base de quarts de tours, tout sort simplement avec des combinaisons de direction et de boutons. Mais D.O.N ne se contente heureusement pas de copier le voisin. Le principe est même suffisamment accrocheur et original pour garantir de bons renversements de situation. Ici, tous les combattants partagent la même jauge de vie. Le but du jeu consiste à grignoter sur la jauge des adversaires, et ce par tous les moyens, jusqu'au KO final. Il n'y a donc pas vraiment de "vies" à proprement parler. D'ailleurs, le vainqueur à l'issue du temps réglementaire n'est pas celui qui a éjecté le plus de monde, mais bien celui qui a la barre d'énergie la plus longue !
